One of Pioneer’s flagship products, introduced in 1993, the Songer Spinal Cable System was developed as an innovative alternative to monofilament wire for spinal fixation procedures resulting from trauma, degenerative conditions, and scoliosis. The system integrates stainless steel or titanium cable tensioned and secured using a tensioner/crimper instrument. Advantages over monofilament wire include: ease of use, flexibility, strength, and consistency. Complimentary instrumentation allows surgeons to select known, reproducible tension in spinal constructs.
Songer spinal cable is offered in both single and double loop configurations. Single-Loop Cable is designed for sublaminar passage and is comprised of a loop at one end and a malleable leader with eyelet at the other. Double-Loop Cable is designed primarily for sublaminar passage. Two cables are connected to a malleable leader with an eyelet, or loop, fastened to the end of each cable.
Features and benefits include:
* Cable strength is far greater. Wire breaks at twist.
* Flexibility guides easier. Wire is rigid.
* Construct tension is known & reproducible. Wire tension is unknown and not reproducible.
* Cable insertion is easier.
* Removal, if necessary, is smooth. Wire is tedious with the potential for dural tears.
